A number of parameters need to be considered for the motion control in a laser micromachining system. Specifications such as stage linearity, accuracy, repeatability, range of motion, number of linear and rotational axis, etc. must be considered for the application. Photomachining can guide you through this process to assemble a system which exceeds your requirements without over specifying the assembly.
Motion Control / Part Handling
A typical PhotoMachining laser micromachining tool has a 12"x12" or 24"x24" motion envelop. Encoders, down to 0.1 micron resolution are used to help maintain accuracy and repeatibility. Motorized z-motion is available as well as several axes of rotary motion. Stepper, servo and linear motors are used depending on the application. Motion controllers such as Galil and Aerotech A3200 assure compatibility between the hardware and software.
PhotoMachining proprietary PMI software as been time tested in our own applications lab and by our own laser applications engineers. The standard version in Visual Basic code has the most flexibility, while the C++ version is used for dedicated projects and where speed is important.
